In this project, the aim is to push the potential of photographic representation: starting from a selection process that proposes the synthesis of complex visual codes, a mechanism is implemented capable of temporarily divesting the photograph itself from its function as a coherent mechanical support to our perceptual abilities.

The images are derived from the digital conversion of photographs taken with a medium format film camera. The operation involved the partial cropping of the graphic representation of residential buildings under construction. The level of realism of such an image is directly proportional to the impoverishment of its aesthetic qualities. The low sharpness and limited color range of the rendering merge into a rational illusionistic surface, producing a visual compromise equidistant from the correct perception of the depicted object and its future real form.

Retina directly reflects on the need to reinterpret the parameters of our visions, presupposing the intrinsic ambiguity of every representation.
